He is a more realistic comedy. And he related it to the actual events, or films about films itself.

3. How does the writer compare Keaton to Chaplin?

The writer compares Keaton to Chaplin by saying that they both had a gift for movement, but Keaton had very modern instincts.


4. How did Keaton's career end?
His career ended because he didn't succeed in "talkies" or movies where they talked. His voice was low, hoarse and cracked at times. He was fired because his movies didn't make that much money and because of his alcoholism. He was divorced by Natalie Talmadge, and lost his mansion, children, career and life.

Parallel Sequencing

Use the parallel sequencing method to write 2 paragraphs comparing Modern Times and Metropolis. Write about a different characteristic than you used for the Integrated Comparison part yesterday.

The film techniques in Modern Times are those such as the use of high key lighting. This lighting makes the audience see that the film is in a happier form. Also Chaplin did not use a screenplay when he did his film.
Metropolis uses chiaruscuro lighting in many of it's scenes. Metropolis also uses a vast amount of special affects.

Comparing

They were both described as working. The mother is sewing whereas the father is working on cars, or with tools. It talks about how the tools are organized, the mom is more organized whereas the dads are everywhere.

The two paragraphs show the relationships between the writer and the mom and dad.

1. They have the same structure they wake up in the morning eat and then go and eat something.
2. Saturday is better, and happier. Sunday is more repulsive, feeling sick, and upset.

My two best friends are the most amazing people I have ever met in my life, Jamie and Nicole. Jamie is a very outgoing person, and always speaks her mind. We met back when we were both about 8 and have always had our differences and have always made up. She lives about 30 minutes away from me in Morgan Hill, and I barely ever get to see her so I always miss her optimistic personality always taking things with a grain of salt and always have my back whenever I need.
Nicole and I only got close about 2 years ago although our friendship is not as old it is just as strong. She has such a bubbly personality. Though sometimes she may get down about something she always tries to stay positive. Again we have had our differences but that doesn't matter to us because she is such a forgiving person who always has the best advice. Due to her outgoing personality she has brought me out of my shell. Without both of these ladies I would not be the person I am today.

1. This paragraph is different than ones that use parallel sequencing because in this paragraph both subjects are in the same paragraph being compared and contrasted. Whereas a parallel sequencing comparison is two separate paragraphs with each subject in a different paragraph.

2. The use of this kind of paragraph can be used first because it has the comparisons right next to each other. Second the use of this kind of comparison will help if there is not as much information.

Metropolis and Modern Times, it's all about the Genre

Modern Times and Metropolis are great examples of the early forms of film, with great ideas in the creating, and editing the films were both revolutionary to the industry. The films do share similarities in the over exagerated acting and the use of music in the background of these silent films, however there is nothing shared with the genres. While the characteristics of the genres do have some ideas that are similar such as the idea that everything is kind of out of place, or not really in everyday life, or an over exageration of what everyday life is. Other than that there remains no other similarities. The science fiction genre can be set in numerous places and even times, it can be set in space. Also in Metropolis the idea of the robot people is another aspect of the science fiction genre. Modern Times is a comedy, meant to make people laugh. The characteristics of a comedy are over exageration and the idea that things happen to the main character that may make them suffer but make the audience laugh. The use of the performance scene in the movie shows us that because he looses his sleeves and forgets the words the audience finds humor in the Tramp's worries and problems. Both of these genres are two greatly different genres.

George Lucas uses a vast amounts of cross cutting, and close ups. He also uses low angles. D.W. Griffith also is known for using cross cutting and the iris, and low and high angles.

What's your favorite Comedy movie? What kind of comedy do you like? Do you like physical comedies like Ace Ventura or The Mask? Do you like British comedies? Do you like comedies with stunts? Do you like teen comedies? What is funny to you?

One of my favorite comedies of all time is Juno. Juno was a kind of dry humor, and a lot of sarcasm. This is not a comedy with stunts, but one with jokes. It is more of a teenager comedy. I like that this film also does relate to teen mothers and that it isn't the end of your life and that they do have other ways to take care of your problems.

In the last month...

What's your favorite movie from the last month? What kind of lighting did it use? Compare/Contrast it with German Expressionism. Did it use chiaroscuro lighting? What were the sets like? Did it film on location? What was the acting like?

In the last month my favorite movie has to be the hangover. The lighting was not really anything to extravagent. But it did use different kinds of lighting going between the clubs and the hotel room. It was set in Las Vegas and it did film on location. The acting was very over the top and comedic.

Science Fiction Movies

Some science fiction movies that I have seen include Star Wars, Artificial Intelligence, and Independence Day. Star wars is set in space, Artificial intelligence is set in a futuristic type environment. Independence day is set with the idea of alien invasion.

German Expressionism

German expressionism is related creative movements in Germany before the First World War that reached a peak in Berlin, during the 1920s. These developments in Germany were part of a larger Expressionist movement in north and central European art. This article deals with the cinematic part of that movement.
